Career Exploration
Career Exploration Involves
• Learning about your interests and aptitudes (skills and talents)
• Learning about job and career opportunities and where you want to work
• Learning about where preparation programs are offered that fit your interests and career opportunities.
As your career advances you will have at least three choices as you gain experience.
1. Stay in your current job and continue to learn more and improve your skills and knowledge.
2. Move “laterally” or sideways to another position at the same level-typically in a similar business or occupation so some of what you learned in the first job helps you succeed in your next job.
3. Move upward or advance up a career ladder. Typically this is a move to a higher level of responsibility based on your experience. Becoming a supervisor or manager is a typical major step.
