AK Summer Research Academy

The Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA), in the 12th season at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. ASRA is open to students entering 7th through 12th grades in the fall of 2012. Programs are offered in June and July. (ASRA also offers a program for Fairbanks students on Saturdays during the school year.) A brief description of each summer program is listed below. For more details and applications, please visit the ASRA website.

ASRA Residential Program is offered on the UAF campus in July and provides an opportunity for students to live on the UAF campus and work with university faculty, staff and industry professionals. Students choose an academic module and are totally immersed in a single subject for two weeks using a “hands-on minds-on” teaching method rather than lectures and worksheets. Twelve modules are available to choose from. Some modules take students off campus to remote areas of Alaska for field work. Visit the ASRA website to see the full list of modules and descriptions of each. (Note: Biomedicine and Genetics are examples of two health related modules.) The cost of each module is $1,200. However, those modules that take students on remote trips range from $1,250 - $1,600. One college credit is offered upon successful completion of a module.

ASRA Day Program is a day program for students entering 7th-12th grades in the fall of 2012. Similar to the ongoing ASRA program, students can choose from 6 different modules. Students attend classes from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays. All modules are held in Fairbanks. Each module costs $600.
