ANSEP University Retention
The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP™) is a longitudinal program that works with students from the time they are in middle school all the way through graduate school. Their objective is to effect a systemic change in the hiring patterns of Indigenous Americans in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. ANSEP recently expanded their program to include students interested in career paths in the biological sciences. Students who participate in the ANSEP University Retention Component are co-enrolled in university classes; participate in organized study groups; have opportunities for peer and professional mentoring and undergraduate research projects; and participate in summer internships. Weekly team building meetings and planned weekly social activities are all part of the program. Many students are also eligible for merit based scholarships provided by industrial partners. Students that are part of the program are eligible to live in the Alyeska wing of the UAA residence halls where they can live and study together for success. ANSEP programs can be found on both the University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Fairbanks campuses.
