First Alaskans Internships

First Alaskans Institute is working towards developing the next generation of Alaska Native leadership and ensuring they are connected to their culture and each other. As part of their leadership development initiative, the First Alaskans Institute offers a Summer Internship Program for Alaska Native undergraduate and graduate students. Funding for the program is provided primarily through a grant from the Denali Commission. One of the targeted areas is Health. Internships are 10 weeks long and take place during the summer months.  Internship placements are available throughout Alaska. A core component of the program is “Leadership Fridays”; training sessions where interns are brought together to connect with current Alaska Native leaders and other community leaders and professionals. These sessions help interns become familiar with current and emerging issues in the Native community and give them skills that will help them excel in their careers.

Program dates: June 4-August 10, 2012
Application deadline: March 16, 2012
