IHS Externship Program

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium - Education, Development and Training Department facilitates the Indian Health Service (IHS) Externship program for the Alaska Area. As Alaska’s statewide provider of health services for Alaska Natives and American Indians, they are able to provide IHS Externs placement in facilities where they can accumulate valuable work experience in their chosen health disciplines. The IHS Externships are available to health or allied health professionals who are U.S. Citizens, enrolled in an academic health profession program or career track and are in good academic standing. Individuals may be employed as an IHS extern for up to 120 workdays per calendar year. Extern assignments are available during non-academic periods.To apply you can log on to the IHS Job Vacancies website and search “Student Extern” and “Alaska” for the posting.

Program Deadline: February 3, 2012
Note: The application deadline is always the first Friday of the month of February for the summer/winter following.
