INBRE Undergraduate Research
Alaska INBRE (IDeA Networks for Biomedical Research Excellence) network is a statewide program that aims to bring 21st century biomedical research to Alaska and to involve more Alaskans in the research process. As part of this program, undergraduate students have an opportunity to participate in research projects either during the academic school year or during the summer.
Undergraduate Summer Research Experience (USRE)
Students submit proposals to pursue their own research in labs with the help of UA faculty during the summer. Projects can be in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, bioengineering, or bioinformatics. The research project is the student’s but the faculty sponsor is to be involved throughout all stages. USRE students receive $4,500 as a student award and up to $2500 for research expenses and supplies such as equipment, software, books, or chemicals and other supplies.
Undergraduate Student Project Support (USPS)
Students submit proposals to pursue their own research in the labs and with the help of UA faculty during the school year. Awards can be for the semester or the entire academic year. Projects can be in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, bioengineering, or bioinformatics. The research project is the student’s but the faculty sponsor is to be involved throughout all stages. USPS students receive $1,000 as a student award and up to $500 for research expenses and supplies such as equipment, software, books, or chemicals and other supplies.
Note: both programs are restricted to students working in labs of INBRE and INBRE-associated faculty. For a current list visit the Alaska INBRE website.
