The human body, despite appearances, is very delicate. There is therefore no doubt that we should look after it throughout the year, but during the cold winters it should be given special care. More often, we forget that internal organs, processes and transformations for proper functioning need appropriate conditions and stimuli. In order to properly prepare the body for cold weather and protect it against all negative consequences, one should remember about three basic pillars of comfortable existence – healthy nutrition, supplementation and physical activity. In this case, special attention should be devoted to supplements, because they prevent deficiencies, nourish the body, build immunity, enhance processes and changes, prevent infections and injuries, or in one word – protect. It’s therefore very important to provide the right amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals – because in the form of supplements they are the most valuable and intensified form, and comprehensively prevent the body from cooling down and the associated health consequences.
Vitamins and minerals
B vitamins, i.e. Thiamine, Choline, Niacin, Riboflavin, Biotin, Inositol, or Folic Acid, are excellent regulators of immune changes affecting the entire immune system, as well as agents that regulate metabolism and digestive processes. Thanks to their use, we avoid any discomfort associated with pain. Similar effects are also possessed by such vitamins as: Beta-carotene, vitamin A, E, D, D3 and K2, E, K, K2 MK-7, which supplement deficiencies and balance the changes. Chromium, Zinc, Magnesium, Potassium, Selenium, Calcium and Iron, in turn, are elements whose supplementation is simply necessary, because they are responsible for healthy, and strong bones, joints, tendons and muscles. As you can see, supplementation is necessary for all types of weather conditions, but its particularly important role can be noticed during the cold weather period, when the body almost fights for survival. This fight is based on constant heating of the body, in order not to allow it to cool down and then freeze, which means that we must generate much more energy and thus burn more calories. Dietary supplements help from outside and inside, entering into a kind of symbiosis of combined interactions between organs, transformations and processes.
Nutrition and fluids
Supplements – though key and irreplaceable – must go hand in hand with healthy nutrition as well as physical activity. Diet, should be rich in high-quality fats, proteins and carbohydrates, eating meals should be turned into their celebration. Eating food slower and chewing more accurately will allow for a faster feeling of satiety and much better digestion, so you will not feel any pain related to indigestion. Eat meals that warm us up, hot, and rich in vegetables and fruits. It’s known that in the winter, when it’s cold outside, we do not have access to fresh vegetables or fruit – then we can use those that we have pickled or frozen during their season. Our choice should also be wholegrain products, such as wholemeal bread, pasta, cereal, rice, as well as protein-rich fish and meat. Do not forget to eat the right amount of warm or hot fluids every day (minimum 3 litres), because otherwise we will dehydrate and cool the body, which means we will dehydrate or even freeze our body. It’s worth adding that the negative effects of downplaying low temperature and the shoulder of supplementation may be the cause of not only single injuries or pain, but also permanent and irreversible impairment of organs, bones or joints. What’s more, supplements also protect our skin, hair and nails, which are extremely susceptible to frostbite, dryness and discoloration. Thanks to supplementation, we will avoid problems connected with it, as well as pain caused by flaking off the dead skin or removing the entire nail.
